Today for our Thoughtful Thursday we are gonna take a look at being respect. This is gonna drive heavy with “being in someone else’s shoes”. As I grew up I was always told to try and look at something from someone else shoes. What this means is that we try to put ourselves in the shoes of the person having a bad day, being sad, being homeless, struggling mentally. So many reason this world an make life far more difficult than it needs to be. Instead of Brushing someone off who looks like they are about to cry, extend a hand and possibly an ear and give them a few minutes to talk it out. Something simple can not only change that persons whole mood but could very well save lives. That person that you saw sad could have lost their partner and are now so lost they have no sense of direction. Or are getting bullied at work and feeling that no-one would miss them if they just disappeared. One simple act of kindness by giving someone a few minutes when they are down can have astronomical affect to someones life.
Lets take a look at anger. Someone could be having a bad day and just got a phone call from the debt collectors saying pay them or we are taking the house. Or just got news that a loved one died and if you clock out, it will be considered walking out on your job and you will be fired. That… that is a tough day for the strongest of people. Now take a moment and put yourself in that persons shoes. We will use the phone call, parent died and you will lose your job if you leave work. Oh and on top of it you are the only provider for you and your child. What kind of day do you think you would be having with all of that at one time? This is what I mean when I say showing someone some respect when they are upset.
This does not mean let people step on you. But take a few minutes and ask that person if they would be willing to talk about it. Talking to a complete stranger can be liberating cause they have no sway one way or the other about your situation. Its free to be kind and give someone a few minutes to have a better day isn’t it? If they tell you no, just leave it be but still show them some respect cause an act of kindness can truly change how the entire day goes. And keep in mind your goals, perhaps they know French and can help you learn French that you are struggling with. You now have made someones day, gained a study aid, and possibly a new friend. Small acts of kindness everyday, won’t change the world, but can change someones world. Be the change.
