Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday.

We like to consider others on Thoughtful Thursdays and today we gonna discuss, Being Nice. That’s right, the act of just being nice to one another. Sometimes it cannot hurt to stop and take a look at a situation.

What do I mean? I am always reminded about a story about a man on a train. At one of the stops another man gets on with 2 kids. The 2 kids are being a bit aggressive towards one another. The father is not paying them much mind at all. Eventually, the first guy asked the dad to control his kids. The dad turned around and said “I’m sorry they just lost their mother and they are still processing it. I just lost my wife” with almost a disbelief to it. My point, we never truly know what someone else is going through in the day or in the moment. I am talking about having empathy in this example, this is true. But it is free to be nice and it is contagious

I’m gonna repeat that…

Being nice is FREE and it is CONTAGIOUS. Fact of the matter is, any mood we portray is contagious. If we are negative towards others they will be negative throughout their day. But if we are nice and just say a simple “hello” to one another, could make someones day. Heavens forbid the possibility at making a new friend at that as well. 

Trust me, when we are the ones going through those days, being positive can be the last thing we want to do. Like anything else on this planet, it takes practice. When we have comes across that negative person or are going through those negative times, take a step back from everything, take a DEEP breathe in and exhale. Now, think about something that makes you happy. I do not mean think of what you are having for lunch later. I mean dig through your thoughts and when doing this exercise you need a powerful memory filled with nothing but joy and happiness. Some examples can be a Childs birth, A certain Christmas, a certain birthday, the first time to an amusement park. Something that genuinely holds a ton of joy in that moment.  Just keep breathing deeply and focus on that happy thought. No you are not gonna go flying to the ceiling like Peter Pan or anything but you will have a warm soothing sensation come across you filled with joy, warmth, and happiness. 

By practicing this at least daily, twice a day preferred, we can learn to not be so mean and aggressive towards one another, who merely got in your path at the wrong time.
