Today we are gonna focus on the layout of our maps.
In order to get your favorite coffee every morning, do you do an exact straight line to its location?
No, of course not.
If you make it at home there are many steps to making in. If you get it from a local store, you drive/walk there. But think about that for a second. All those steps you take in order just to get a cup of coffee. It doesn’t just appear in front of you (unless you have an amazing wife/husband… different topic entirely). No, in order to make it you have to grab the pot, fill with water, pour the water in the coffee maker, then get a spoon, add a filter to the coffee machine, scoop out the coffee and put it into the coffee machine inside the filter (coffee grit, YUK), close the lid, hit the power button. We do all that just for a cup of coffee but it is such routine that the roadmap for that final result, the cup of coffee, is muscle memory. There is not even a thought to it. Why should the road map to our happiness be any different?
With that in mind, do me a favor. Grab a piece of paper and pen and write down your goal, your final happiness “I MADE IT” goal. now under it i’m certain there are steps that can be taken to get there. Just like we saw with making a cup of coffee. We might not think about it but that was 9 steps. Guess what we still can’t enjoy our cup of coffee yet. There is even more steps beyond that. This is why laying out a roadmap is so important. If your goal is something that you can only accomplish on your spare time from kids, work, cleaning, life, then congratulations. You are human like the rest of us. Now under that goal you wrote down on that piece of paper, I am more than certain there are steps we can layout to start inching towards that goal. Most of them may involve research and DO NOT be too proud to think you need to go at this alone. Almost any goal you have, someone else had the same goal. They accomplished their goal and most times are willing to share with you their journey to get there, along with tips and guidance.
For instance, did you notice we skipped a very important step in our coffee making journey? Without it, any of the following steps would lead to failure. If the coffee maker is not plugged in, no matter how long you wait it is not gonna do anything at all. Much like our journeys, if we possibly forget something we could mess the whole thing up.
But….
Simply plugging it in after all the previous steps are done, and it is an easy fix. However, this might not be so easy to do on the journey we have ahead to get to our final goal. That is why research is so important. Someone has been where you are before, find them and learn from them. They already made many mistakes to get to their goal, so take advantage and learn so you do not do the same mistakes.
Once we have the layout, make a realistic timeline to accomplish those goals. some steps could take an hour, some steps could take days, some could take weeks. That is why we need to lay it out so we can be ready for the next step. And if you set your weekly goal and you come short on reaching it, do not beat yourself up and get yourself down. Life happens and it can take all of our attention to stay afloat at times. Just tell yourself “This is important and I will accomplish this” as many times as needed.
I know you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. You are amazing. With your layout in your hand, your time frame figured out, and you PUMPED UP.
LET’S DO THIS!!
Leave a comment on what it is you are starting your journey on. Who knows, someone may be heading towards the same goal and have some advice.
Stay awesome and Get@it
